In 2008 households in Perth & Kinross recycled or composted 35.9% of their waste (SEPA, 2008). This is a fantastic achievement.
About the Scheme
Around 80% of households in Perth & Kinross have been provided with a blue-lidded bin for recycling household waste and a brown-lidded bin for recycling garden waste.

Don’t have a kerbside scheme?

Sort It website to find your nearest.
Want to recycle something else?
If you live within the Perth & Kinross Council area and want to recycle something that is not collected by the kerbside scheme
there are still several things that you can do.
- Reduce – Why not go even further and try to reduce the amount of waste that you produce in the
first place. Find out how by visiting the Reduce section of this website.
- Reuse – A wide range of items from books to bookcases can be reused. You can find reuse outlets (e.g. Charity shops and Furniture charities) on our Sort It website.
- Recycle – Your local recycling centres and points often accept a wider range of items than your kerbside scheme. You can find your nearest recycling centre or point on our Sort It website.
Where your recycling goes:
The contents of your brown bin are turned into compost by using a technique called
In Vessel Composting. The compost is then used by the council for land reclamation and restoration.
