Perth & Kinross Council is committed to ensuring that it reaches The Scottish Government target of a 50% recycling rate by 2013.
In order to do so it is important that as well as providing the infrastructure to enable people to recycle including the expansion and continuing roll-out across Perth & Kinross of the new Kerbside Recycling Service and the expansion of Recycling Centres and Points it is important that the Council provide information on how to reduce reuse and recycle more materials more often.

There are various ways in which schools can play their part and become more waste aware and there is also a number of ways in which the Council can support this. The Council has a Waste Awareness Coordinator dedicated to raising awareness among children and young people.
The Waste Awareness Coordinator can visit schools and give an interesting and informative talk on any waste related topic, run an interactive assembly with the ‘Who Wants to be Waste Aware’ quiz, provide educational games and activities and provide advice and support for staff. Additionally, the Council are have the WEBWalk, which is an interactive boardwalk, located at Friarton Recycling Centre.

The Council’s Waste Education Boardwalk was developed to help schools, community groups and interested individuals learn more about reducing, reusing and recycling their waste. Visitors are led by a Waste Awareness Co-ordinator who will illustrate the issues facing waste and recycling, as well as potential solutions, through a range of interactive displays and illustrative panels.
The talks and activities are suitable for young people of all ages, from nursery to senior secondary.
