Perth & Kinross: Household Battery Recycling

Campaign Launch

The Waste Aware Perth & Kinross Household Battery Recycling Campaign was launched on the 16 th of March, 2007. Residents in Perth & Kinross can now participate in the retail take-back battery recycling scheme. The campaign was launched by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), the Scottish Waste Awareness Group (SWAG) and Perth & Kinross Council in Homebase at St. Catherine’s Retail Park. An introductory postcard was sent to all households in Perth and Kinross, explaining the scheme and listing participating retailers.

You may remember receiving one of these:

Current Scheme Information

Perth & Kinross householders can recycle used and unwanted household batteries by dropping them off at collection points in retail outlets. Participating retailers will accept all household batteries, including:
  • All AA and AAA batteries
  • C and D batteries
  • Button batteries (from watches or hearing aids)
  • Mobile phone batteries
  • Laptop batteries
Please take car and other vehicle batteries to your local Recycling Centre, as they cannot be recycled through this scheme. You can search for your nearest car battery Recycling Point on Sort It.

Retailers will provide you with a reusable battery collection box to take home to store your unwanted household batteries. Then simply return to the retail outlet with your filled or partially full box and empty it into the in-store collection tube. Information leaflets explaining the what, why and how of battery recycling are available at in-store collection points.
