    Reduce & reuse plant pots

pots Every garden shed probably has a few (if not many) plant pots hiding in the corner and at the moment they can’t be recycled in Tayside. Here are some ways to help you reduce the number you use:
    • Biodegradable cups made from corn starch can be used a number of times before either being planted out or composted. Here are just a couple of the places that you can buy them from:
      www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk
      www.organiccatalog.com

    • Paper potter is a device which allows you to make your own pots out of newspaper. Visit
      www.cat.org.uk for more information.

    • Toilet and kitchen roll tubes can be used instead of plant pots. The tubes should be cut, filled with soil and stood in a tray. Seeds can then be planted in the tubes which can then be planted directly into the soil.

    • Remember to reuse any pots you do have.
Grow your own fruit & veg
    herbs
You can help to reduce food packaging by growing your own fruit and veg.
    • Herbs can be grown in small pots on a window sill or planted in the garden.

    • You can grow a variety of vegetables in tubs, or if you have enough room in your garden why not consider having a vegtable plot?

    • Allotments may be available in your area. Contact your local Council to find out more or click here for more information.
There are a variety of places that you can find out more about growing your own food. Why not visit your local library to borrow gardening books or search the web?
